Lahore: International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced a collaborative effort with waste management companies from Lahore, Rawalpindi, and the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board, alongside Coca-Cola, to launch the ‘Maidaan Saaf (Ground Clean) Campaign’ during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The initiative aims to ensure efficient waste management at cricket stadiums in Pakistan, with a focus on encouraging responsible consumer behavior and swift cleanup operations post-matches.
According to a statement by Coca-Cola, the campaign will see special teams of cleaners deployed at each venue to ensure that the stadiums are cleared within 60 minutes following a match. As part of the initiative, Coca-Cola, ICC’s global beverage partner, is installing waste bins made from recycled plastic at each venue, which will be categorized to aid in waste segregation by attendees.
An awareness campaign will also be launched to promote responsible waste disposal among fans. The collected waste is set to be recycled into value-added products, further underscoring the initiative’s sustainability goals.
Babar Sahib Din, CEO of Lahore Waste Management Company, highlighted the event as a unique opportunity to raise awareness on sustainable practices. Dr. Faisal Hashmi, Senior Director of Coca-Cola Pakistan and Afghanistan Region Public Affairs, expressed the company’s dedication to enhancing the joy of cricket in Pakistan, drawing parallels to their influence on the country’s music scene through Coke Studio.
The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 marks the return of this prestigious eight-team, 15-match event to the cricket calendar, with Pakistan hosting its first global cricket tournament since 1996.
