Interior Minister Approves Islamabad’s First International Standard Zoo and Safari Park


Islamabad: In a significant development, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has greenlit a plan to set up a 200-acre zoo and safari park in Islamabad, aimed at meeting international standards and enhancing the city’s tourism and recreational offerings.



According to Zameen.Com, the new facility, set to be Pakistan’s first zoo and safari park of global standards, will house approximately 5,000 animals and birds from various parts of the world, with an initial introduction of 2,000 species. The project, highlighted by Minister Naqvi for its potential to attract tourists and provide educational opportunities, is slated to start with the laying of the foundation stone in October.



The decision came after a detailed review meeting at the Capital Development Authority (CDA) headquarters, chaired by Minister Naqvi. CDA Chairman Mohammad Ali Randhawa provided comprehensive briefings on the project, emphasizing its expected benefits in terms of boosting tourism and providing high-quality recreational spaces for residents and visitors.



The initiative also includes plans for the zoo to be registered with the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums, ensuring that it adheres to international standards of animal care and facility management. The minister urged swift action on all related matters to expedite the development of this landmark project.
