Karachi: Interloop Limited has announced that its latest Apparel Plant has received the prestigious LEED Platinum certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, achieving a record-setting 94 points, the highest rating awarded to any facility in Pakistan across all categories. This milestone not only distinguishes the facility nationally but also marks it as having one of the highest LEED scores globally for a facility of its size.
According to Interloop Limited, the 1.25 million-square-foot facility is equipped with advanced technology and large-scale automation, enabling an annual production capacity of 45 million pieces of knitwear. The plant’s design incorporates significant sustainability features, such as energy-saving systems, water management technology, and a 20% water recycling rate, complemented by an effluent treatment plant. A unique aspect of the plant is its biodiversity park, which emphasizes Interloop’s commitment to fostering an environmentally responsible industrial ecosystem.
The plant extensively uses renewable energy sources, including biomass boilers, aligning with Interloop’s Science Based Targets initiative. This initiative aims to decarbonize its operations and significantly reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030. This certification and the facility’s features reflect Interloop’s ongoing commitment to integrating sustainability into all aspects of its operations.
