Islamabad to Enhance Urban Mobility with Cycle Tracks Linking to Metro Stations

Islamabad: In a strategic move to promote sustainable transportation, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) plans to integrate cycle tracks with metro and other bus stations throughout Islamabad. Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa highlighted the initiative’s potential to improve urban mobility and environmental health during a detailed briefing on August 9.

According to Zameen.Com, the briefing, conducted via Zoom by consultants from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), outlined the plans for developing cycle tracks as both a cost-effective means of transport and a recreational activity in the city. Chairman Randhawa stressed the importance of adhering to international standards while maintaining a focus on budget efficiency and environmental sustainability. He called for consultations with environmental experts to ensure that the cycle tracks will complement Islamabad’s green spaces without compromising the city’s scenic beauty.

The ADB consultants shared insights from global best practices, suggesting that Islamabad’s new cycle tracks should incorporate these international standards to enhance functionality and accessibility. This development is part of a broader effort by the CDA to transform Islamabad into a more sustainable and pedestrian-friendly city.
