Karachi: In a robust drive towards environmental sustainability, Jazz, the foremost digital operator in Pakistan, spearheaded a beach cleanup initiative at Clifton Beach on World Cleanup Day. The event aimed to combat marine pollution and was part of Jazz’s broader ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) goals, involving employee participation to foster a cleaner and healthier marine environment.
According to Jazz Pakistan, the cleanup event aligns with this year’s World Cleanup Day theme, ‘Make Room For Life,’ which focuses on addressing the pressing global waste challenge and its impact on marine life. The initiative highlights the critical issue of ocean pollution, primarily stemming from land-based sources, which contributes to over 10 million metric tons of plastic debris entering the oceans each year. These pollutants pose a severe threat to marine organisms and ecosystems, and eventually enter the human food chain as microplastics.
Syed Fakhar Ahmed, Jazz’s Chief Corporate & Regulatory Affairs Officer, emphasized the company’s dedication to environmental concerns, stating, “Jazz’s commitment to environmental sustainability drives us to actively combat marine pollution. By raising awareness about solid waste’s impact on ecosystems, we aim to foster environmental stewardship and protect the planet for future generations. Every step towards a cleaner environment contributes to a better future for all.”
Furthering its environmental commitments, Jazz is vigorously pursuing its Net Zero initiative, targeting a net-zero carbon footprint by 2050. Over the past two years, the company has made significant strides by diverting 77 tons of waste from landfills, enhancing recycling efforts, and converting food waste into organic fertilizers. Additionally, Jazz has conducted tree plantation drives in Peshawar and Islamabad, reinforcing its pledge towards environmental conservation and sustainability.
