Karachi Bus Terminals to Relocate to Outskirts with Free Shuttle Service Introduced

Karachi: In a major move to decongest the city center, the Sindh government has announced the relocation of Karachi’s bus terminals to the outskirts, accompanied by a new free shuttle service for travelers starting August 14.

According to Zameen.Com, the decision was confirmed by the Sindh Minister for Transport and Mass Transit, Sharjeel Inam Memon, during a meeting on Tuesday. He highlighted the move as a strategic effort to alleviate traffic and reduce the burden on urban infrastructure caused by heavy vehicles. “We are committed to providing this facility from the existing bus depots to the new terminals free of charge,” stated Memon, emphasizing the government’s dedication to enhancing the urban transport experience.

The meeting was attended by key stakeholders including Secretary Transport Asad Zamin, Commissioner Karachi Hasan Naqvi, Karachi Police Chief Javed Alam Odho, and Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Traffic Ahmed Nawaz Cheema. Discussions focused on the details of the relocation and the subsequent introduction of a complimentary shuttle service, which will facilitate access to the new bus terminals from various points in the city such as Cantt Station, Sagheer Shaheed Road, MA Jinnah Road, and Al-Karam Square.

Further plans include modernizing the Karachi Bus Terminal with advanced facilities to better serve passengers and introducing a police checkpoint at the terminal to enhance security measures. Memon assured that the interests of all parties, including transporters, would be carefully considered to ensure the transition is smooth and that transporters do not suffer losses while passengers receive necessary support and convenience.
