Karachi: The Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has made an urgent appeal to Sindh’s Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and Karachi’s Mayor Murtaza Wahab, urging them to take swift action to address the city’s deteriorating road infrastructure, which is causing severe daily disruptions.

According to Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Altaf A. Ghaffar, Acting President of KCCI, expressed significant concern over the state of the roads, especially after damage sustained during this year’s monsoon season. The degraded conditions have led to chronic traffic jams and widespread public frustration, impacting both the business community and residents throughout the city.

Ghaffar pointed out that major areas like Jodia Bazaar, Mauripur, and MA Jinnah Roads are nearly impassable, likening the situation to a war zone. He criticized the local government’s lack of action, noting that despite Karachi’s substantial contributions to both national and provincial revenues, the city continues to suffer from neglect. The dire state of the roads not only poses daily hazards but has also fostered a deep sense of inequality among residents, as more affluent areas receive better maintenance and services.

The Acting President called for immediate road repairs to alleviate traffic congestion and prevent further accidents. He emphasized the need for equitable treatment across all parts of Karachi to prevent increasing social unrest and potential security issues. Ghaffar’s plea underscores the urgency of addressing infrastructure issues to ensure the safety and well-being of all Karachi residents.
