Karachi Launches Safe City Project to Enhance Security

Karachi: The city has begun implementing the first phase of the Karachi Safe City Project, with the installation of 25 surveillance cameras at five strategic locations aimed at improving public safety and law enforcement responsiveness. This initiative, managed by the Sindh Safe Cities Authority, marks a significant step in leveraging technology to combat crime and boost security throughout the city.

According to Zameen.Com, the newly installed cameras will feed live footage directly to the Central Police Office (CPO) Command and Control Centre. Asif Ijaz Sheikh, Director General of the Sindh Safe Cities Authority, noted that 43 poles have been set up to support the surveillance infrastructure. This system allows for real-time monitoring at the S4 Control Room within the CPO, enabling police to quickly identify and react to suspicious activities.

The project, which is valued at over PKR 3 billion, was launched earlier this year by Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar, who stated that the goal is to make Karachi one of the safest cities in Pakistan. The initiative is structured in two phases, with the completion of the first phase expected within the next 12 months. The Sindh government anticipates a significant reduction in crime rates as a result of this project, with further plans to expand the surveillance network to other cities within the province following the completion of phase one.
