Karachi to Evacuate 40 Hazardous Buildings in Safety Push

Karachi: In a decisive move to address public safety, Karachi authorities have initiated the evacuation of 40 buildings classified as extremely hazardous. This action is part of a broader effort to mitigate the dangers posed by dilapidated structures throughout the city, with a particular focus on the district of South, where the majority of these buildings are located.

According to Zameen.Com, Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi led a recent meeting that assessed the city’s strategy for handling unsafe buildings. An official from the Sindh Building Control Authority provided insights into the severity of the situation, noting that 450 problematic buildings have been identified citywide. The session, which also included Additional Commissioner Karachi-I, Syed Ghulam Mehdi, and Deputy Commissioner South Altaf Sario, resulted in the issuance of evacuation notices to the residences deemed most at risk.

The urgency of these evacuations is underscored by plans to disconnect utility services to these structures through coordination with local utility companies, KE and SSGC, ensuring resident safety during the transition. This measure reflects a significant commitment by city officials to prevent potential disasters associated with building collapses.
