KARACHI: Karachi’s power supply infrastructure has maintained stability amid ongoing monsoon conditions, with gusty winds and frequent showers sweeping through the city. K-Electric, the city’s main electricity provider, reported that more than 1,800 out of over 2,100 power feeders continued to function without disruption during the second day of the monsoon spell.
The heavy rainfall affected around 300 feeders at the height of the downpour over the past day. K-Electric teams, deployed throughout the city, worked continuously to restore service, ensuring that most of the impacted feeders were operational shortly after receiving safety clearance.
K-Electric’s spokesperson, Imran Rana, explained that power was intentionally suspended in some low-lying areas and circuits prone to electricity theft to prevent potential hazards. Restoration was prioritized as soon as conditions improved, thanks to the dedicated efforts of the field teams.
The company has set up centralized monitoring systems to track both weather patterns and the power supply status. K-Electric’s management is actively coordinating with municipal agencies and city officials to ensure effective responses as weather conditions shift.
Rana also advised residents to exercise caution around electrical installations, warning against contact with entangled cables, streetlight poles, and other electrical infrastructure during and after rainfall to avoid accidents.
For emergencies related to electricity, the public is encouraged to contact K-Electric through its 118 call center. Customers can also use various digital platforms, including the KE website, KE Live App, and WhatsApp service, to report individual power issues.
