KATI President Calls for Enhanced Community Policing Following EBM Causeway Shootout

Karachi: Following a recent shootout on EBM Causeway, which resulted in the death of two suspected dacoits and the arrest of another, Johar Kandhari, President of the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI), has called for intensified community policing efforts to help curb street crime in Karachi. The incident, which highlighted both the bravery and the skill of the local police force, underscores the ongoing struggle against crime in the city.

According to Korangi Association of Trade and Industry, senior police officials, including IG East Ghulam Azfar Mahesar and SSP Korangi Tawheed Rehman Memon, praised the police's professionalism during the incident. They acknowledged the effective actions taken by the police that have led to a decrease in street crime rates. However, Kandhari emphasized that despite these successes, the activation of community policing is crucial to further reduce and control street crime effectively.

Kandhari also noted the pressing need for the Safe City project, which he deemed indispensable for bringing criminals to justice and enhancing the security of Karachi’s residents, who are increasingly concerned about the frequent street crimes and the potential for violent outcomes. He linked the rise in crime to unemployment and economic challenges, arguing that safeguarding industrialists and enhancing economic activities are vital for boosting investment in the industrial sector.

Further, Kandhari proposed that the Korangi industrial area be developed as a model zone for safety and security, and he pledged continued cooperation between KATI industrialists and law enforcement agencies, including the Sindh Police. He advocated for a grand operation by police and other agencies against serious crimes like kidnapping for ransom and possession mafia activities to ensure total eradication of crime in industrial zones.
