Karachi: The Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) President, Junaid Naqi, has voiced serious concerns following a traffic accident in Karachi that resulted in the deaths of two industrialists and left another person injured. Naqi criticized the lack of enforcement of traffic laws, accusing authorities of being passive observers as lives are lost.
According to a statement by Korangi Association of Trade and Industry, the accident took place when a trailer, which is banned from operating during daytime hours, collided with a car on the Neti Jeti Bridge. The collision caused the car to fall from the bridge, leading to the instant deaths of a father and son, both from the industrial sector. Naqi emphasized the significant loss to both the victims’ families and the business community.
Naqi highlighted that despite the Sindh government’s restrictions on heavy vehicles entering the city during the day, trailers and trucks continue to operate without constraint. He stated that this incident illustrates the lack of enforcement of traffic laws and the failure of law enforcement agencies to fulfill their duties.
Naqi disclosed that 132 people have died in similar accidents this year, marking a severe issue. He criticized reckless trailer drivers who disregard traffic regulations and endanger lives.
The KATI president has called on Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and Transport Minister Sharjeel Memon to take immediate action. He urged the government to enforce traffic laws strictly, penalize violators heavily, and empower traffic police to prevent such tragedies in the future.
Naqi warned that Karachi’s roads have become increasingly dangerous due to the unregulated movement of heavy vehicles, posing threats to residents and industrialists. He stressed that without immediate action, public trust in the government would further deteriorate.
