Karachi: The Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) has raised serious concerns over a surge in dog bite incidents in Karachi, attributing the issue to an increasing number of stray dogs. KATI President Muhammad Ikram Rajput and Acting Patron-in-Chief Zubair Chhaya highlighted the threat to public safety, particularly for vulnerable groups like children, the elderly, and daily wage earners.
In a joint statement, KATI's leaders remarked on the alarming rise in these incidents, instilling fear among residents and workers. President Rajput emphasized that the crisis has reached emergency levels, necessitating immediate steps to eliminate dangerous stray dogs to protect human lives.
Rajput critiqued sterilization and neutering programs, describing them as time-consuming and ineffective in the current scenario. He noted that legal challenges have exacerbated the problem, delaying effective solutions and prolonging public distress.
The impact on industrial zones, especially in the Korangi Industrial Area, was also underscored by Rajput, who pointed out the increased vulnerability of employees commuting during off-peak hours. He supported the initiatives led by Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab, viewing them as crucial for public safety and urban order.
Rajput called for a coordinated response from federal and provincial governments and local authorities to prioritize public safety. He stressed the need for a clear, long-term policy to tackle the stray dog problem effectively.
Echoing these concerns, Acting Patron-in-Chief Chhaya cited data revealing over 800 dog bite cases reported in the first five days of 2026. He affirmed KATI's full support for the Karachi Mayor's actions and pledged cooperation with municipal authorities.
Chhaya expressed optimism about the ongoing measures, praising Mayor Wahab's initiatives. He anticipated that effective implementation of the campaign would restore security and reduce the risk posed by stray dogs.
KATI reiterated its demand for urgent action, emphasizing that the safety of human lives should be the top priority, with sustained efforts needed to ensure a safer Karachi for all.
