KCCI Overhauls Constitution, Aligns With Trade Laws

Islamabad: Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) members unanimously approved substantial revisions to the organization's Memorandum and Articles of Association (M and AOA) at an Extraordinary General Meeting (EOGM). President Muhammad Jawed Bilwani announced the changes, emphasizing their alignment with the Trade Organizations Act and Rules, the Companies Act 2017, and recent amendments.

Bilwani called the move a "historic milestone," stating that the modifications expand the Chamber’s goals, improve its management, and ensure compliance with legal requirements. He explained that the Directorate General of Trade Organizations (DGTO) mandated the revisions, reflecting the Trade Organizations Act and Rules 2013, the Companies Act 2017, subsequent amendments from 2022 and 2025, and the statutory template under SRO-525.

The president stressed the Chamber's commitment to adhering to regulations while protecting members' interests. He highlighted the transparent and inclusive process, noting that all members received advance notice of the proposed changes. This open communication ensured everyone could review, comprehend, and contribute to the discussion, culminating in the unanimous decision.

The new framework also includes provisions for adjusting fees for admissions, renewals, and elections, subject to DGTO approval and in line with Ministry of Commerce SRO 525(I)/2016. These adjustments aim to enhance governance, transparency, and the Chamber’s credibility as a representative voice for Pakistan’s business community.

Bilwani confirmed the unanimous adoption of the M and AOA amendments through special resolutions. These resolutions authorize the Executive Committee and Secretary General to complete the legal formalities and submit the revised documents to the DGTO for approval, following endorsement by the SECP.

In closing, Bilwani reiterated KCCI's dedication to protecting trade and industry, strengthening government-private sector relationships, and contributing to Pakistan’s economic advancement. He expressed gratitude for members' support and assured them of KCCI's continued commitment to the prosperity of the nation.
