Karachi: The newly reconstructed bridge on the Korangi Causeway is scheduled to open to vehicular traffic on January 1, 2025, announced Saeed Ghani, Provincial Local Government Minister. The announcement was made during Ghani’s inspection of the site on August 26, where the significance of the bridge as a major infrastructural enhancement for Karachi was emphasized.
According to Zameen.Com, Project Director Tariq Mughal briefed Minister Ghani on the rapid progress of the construction, which is being expedited to meet the set deadline. Ghani noted that the bridge’s completion would alleviate traffic congestion and improve connectivity for the residents of Korangi, Landhi, and Malir, labeling the project a “New Year’s gift” from the Sindh government to Karachi’s citizens.
The initiative is part of a larger effort by the Sindh government, under the guidance of Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, to invest in significant uplift projects throughout the province. The minister also referenced the challenges posed by monsoon floods on the old bridge, stating that its emergency reconstruction is vital for ensuring uninterrupted traffic flow during such events.
