Lahore: The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) in partnership with the Punjab Labor Department conducted an awareness session on labor laws and welfare measures, highlighting government efforts to stabilize the economy and enhance worker rights.
According to Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the session featured discussions by key figures including LCCI President Kashif Anwar, Provincial Labor Minister Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar, and other senior officials. They focused on the challenges faced by the economy post-COVID, including climate-induced issues and financial instabilities like rupee devaluation and high interest rates. The event also addressed the government’s initiatives to mitigate these challenges, the rise in minimum wages, and the establishment of facility centers by various departments within the LCCI premises.
President Anwar emphasized the role of the chamber in fostering skilled labor and empowering women, noting the new initiatives like awards for women’s achievements. He also requested the appointment of a focal person to streamline communication between the LCCI and the Labor Ministry to address ongoing labor issues more efficiently.
Minister Khokhar reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the business community, promising to launch a media campaign to educate the public on labor laws and welfare opportunities. He announced a new committee in partnership with the LCCI to address labor issues and declared the appointment of a focal person dedicated to aiding the chamber.
Labor Secretary Muhammad Naeem Ghaus provided an overview of proposed labor law amendments, including raising the working age from 15 to 16 and the introduction of day-care centers in workplaces, indicating a move towards more family-friendly labor policies.
