Lahore Imposes Fines for Air Quality Violations as Pollution Levels Soar

Islamabad: Lahore has been identified as the world’s most polluted city, prompting local authorities to implement fines for air quality violations. This decision follows a report on October 2 which highlighted Lahore’s hazardous air quality levels, a stark contrast to Karachi’s moderate pollution status.

According to Zameen.Com, Lahore’s severe pollution is largely attributed to vehicle emissions. To mitigate the health risks associated with this crisis, the city has issued guidelines urging residents to maintain their vehicles, utilize public transportation, and limit the use of private cars and motorbikes. Non-compliance with these measures could result in fines ranging from PKR 2,000 to PKR 4,000.

In response to the ongoing environmental challenges, the public is encouraged to report any vehicles emitting excessive smoke through the designated helpline, 1373. These collective efforts are aimed at fostering a cleaner and healthier environment for all residents.
