Islamabad: Sindh Energy Minister Nasir Hussain Shah visited K-Electric’s (KE) Central Load Dispatch Centre on August 21, 2025, amidst the ongoing heavy monsoon downpour in Karachi. He was briefed by KE CEO Syed Moonis Alvi and KE Chief Distribution and Marcomms Officer Sadia Dada about the power utility’s generation, transmission, and distribution network stability.
Minister Shah directed K-Electric to maintain high vigilance due to the intense rainfall and expressed contentment with KE’s response that prioritized public safety. He noted the necessity of mobilizing resources for prompt resolution of customer issues given the unprecedented precipitation.
Alvi informed the minister that KE’s power infrastructure remained robust and stable. He stated that despite the heavy downpour, over 2,050 of KE’s 2,100 feeders were supplying electricity to the metropolis. Field crews were working 24/7 to address any issues and maintain power supply.
Alvi reported that electricity had been restored to over 95% of Karachi and surrounding regions following the most substantial rainfall since 2020 and 2021. He also acknowledged the collaborative efforts of civic bodies in handling the unexpected weather emergency, specifically the drainage work that enabled KE’s personnel to access affected locations and rectify localized problems swiftly.
Emphasizing safety, Alvi cautioned residents to exercise prudence when using electrical appliances during the monsoon. He recommended proper grounding of appliances and warned against operating water pumps with wet hands or feet. He confirmed that KE teams were instructed to prioritize safety procedures during restoration efforts.
Despite the widespread restoration of feeders, KE continues to treat the situation urgently due to ongoing rain predictions from the Pakistan Meteorological Department. Crews are still actively resolving faults and implementing safety shutdowns. The utility remains vigilant, with its teams working continuously to address emerging problems and ensure public safety. KE’s management is collaborating closely with civic authorities and city administrators for a timely and efficient response to changing weather patterns.
K-Electric urged the public to maintain a safe distance from electrical infrastructure, particularly during and after rainfall, and to report any hazardous situations via the 118 call center. KE’s WhatsApp platform, KE Live App, and social media channels are also available for lodging complaints about localized outages.
