Islamabad: The Pakistan Government has officially greenlit a financing agreement between Pakistan Railways and China for the significant upgrade of the Karachi-Peshawar Railway Line, known as the ML-1 project, as part of the ongoing China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) initiatives.
According to Zameen.Com, China will provide 85% of the funding required for the ML-1 project, with the remaining 15% being furnished by Pakistan. This strategic infrastructure endeavor is designed to enhance the railway connectivity between Karachi and Peshawar. The project, expected to span eight years until completion, will commence with its first phase following this approval. In addition to funding the railway project, the cabinet also ratified an amendment to the Rules of Business 1973, leading to the formal discontinuation and inactivity of the Pakistan Public Works Department (Pak PWD).
