Motorcycle Dealers to Stage Protest Over Load Shedding on M.A. Jinnah Road

Karachi: Dealers from Pakistan's largest motorcycle auto parts market on M.A. Jinnah Road are planning a protest against persistent electricity load shedding. The All Pakistan Motorcycle Spare Parts Importers and Dealers Association (APMSPIDA) has issued a warning that if K-Electric does not address the issue, the dealers will block the main road.

MSPIDA leaders, including Chairman Sohail Usman, Vice Chairman Ijaz Usman, and Public Utilities Committee Chairman Nasir Maqbool, along with dealers from various markets, have vocally opposed the limited electricity supply, which lasts only four hours daily despite full payment of bills. They are demanding an uninterrupted power supply.

The leaders highlighted that the market, operational from 10:30 AM to 8:00 PM, receives electricity for just four hours, leaving it in darkness for the remaining time. They emphasized that despite adhering to billing requirements, the market suffers due to the prolonged outages.

Sohail Usman stated that the extended load shedding is disrupting business activities and exacerbating challenges for shopkeepers amid rising inflation. He also noted that the lack of power is creating opportunities for criminal activities.

Efforts to resolve the issue through meetings with K-Electric have been unsuccessful, according to Usman. Despite promises from K-Electric to address the load shedding, no effective measures have been implemented.

Usman acknowledged the efforts of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) officials in raising the issue with authorities, resulting in a visit from NEPRA representatives who assured a resolution.

The MSPIDA has cautioned that if the situation does not improve, they will proceed with the protest, aiming to draw attention to their demands for reliable electricity.
