Karachi, The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) today held a public hearing to discuss a Quarterly Tariff Adjustment (QTA) request for the first quarter of the fiscal year 2023-24. The request, filed by XWDISCOS, follows policy guidelines from the Federal Government, impacting customers of K-Electric (KE) as well.
According to K-Electric, NEPRA and the Government of Pakistan operate under a set framework of policies and regulations. These determine the costs and methods for recovering charges from consumers in line with the Uniform Tariff Policy, which is applicable nationwide. This system ensures that Individual Distribution Companies, like XWDISCOS, do not have the autonomy to influence the process or make unilateral tariff changes.
The QTA request by XWDISCOS includes adjustments based on various factors. These encompass capacity charges, transmission charges, the impact of transmission and distribution (TandD) losses due to Fuel Cost Adjustment (FCA), and variable operation and maintenance charges. The hearing is a standard procedure allowing NEPRA to examine the legitimacy and necessity of the proposed adjustments before implementing any changes that would affect consumer tariffs.
This public hearing is a critical step in ensuring that any adjustments to the electricity tariffs are fair, transparent, and in accordance with the established regulatory framework. The outcome of this hearing will directly influence the electricity costs borne by consumers in the coming quarter.
