Karachi: The North Karachi Association of Trade and Industries (NKATI) has declared its full support for the citywide traders’ strike on August 28, pressing for significant government interventions to address economic challenges affecting local businesses.
According to North Karachi Association of Trade and Industry, Faisal Moiz Khan, president of NKATI, along with Senior Vice President Shabbir Ismail, Vice President Naeem Haider, CMC Chief Akhtar Ismail, and CEO of NKIDMC Younus Khamisani, have collectively endorsed the planned strike. During an urgent meeting, NKATI leadership outlined several critical issues requiring immediate resolution. These include the high electricity tariffs, the need for renegotiation of contracts with Independent Power Producers (IPP) to better serve the national interest, the removal of what they describe as illegal taxes imposed on traders, shopkeepers, industrialists, and the general public, and the necessity for rapid governmental relief measures for Karachi, which they noted contributes significantly to the national exchequer.
NKATI’s statement underscores a strong plea for governmental engagement to alleviate the financial and operational burdens faced by Karachi’s business community and its residents.
