ISLAMABAD: Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC) announced a major gas discovery at the Sahito-1 exploratory well within the Khewari Exploration License in Khairpur, Sindh. This development underscores a pivotal step in addressing Pakistan's energy needs.
According to Oil and Gas Development Company Limited, the Sahito-1 well's wireline logs interpretation revealed promising results from the Lower Goru Formation's Massive Sand. Drill Stem Testing (DST) reported a gas flow of 17.2 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD), with a wellhead flowing pressure of 3,390 pounds per square inch (psi) at a choke size of 32/64 inches, highlighting substantial reservoir potential.
OGDC operates the Sahito-1 well with a 95 percent working interest, while Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL) holds a 5 percent carried interest. The exploratory well, initiated on December 24, 2025, reached a total depth of 3,870 meters in the Sembar Formation, utilizing OGDC's technical resources.
This discovery signifies a critical advancement in OGDC's exploration initiatives and emphasizes the company's commitment to bolstering Pakistan's domestic energy resources. The new gas reserves are anticipated to help bridge the nation's energy supply-demand gap, enhancing hydrocarbon reserves for the joint venture partners and the country.
