Islamabad: Pakistan’s information technology (IT) sector has demonstrated significant growth in the first month of the fiscal year 2024-25, with exports totaling USD 286.395 million, marking a 33.84% increase compared to the same period last year. This growth highlights Pakistan’s strengthening position in the global IT services market.
According to Zameen.Com, the substantial rise in IT exports is primarily driven by the computer services sector, which alone surged by 44.14%, from USD 172.680 million last year to USD 248.899 million in July 2024. Within this sector, software consultancy services notably increased by 47.38%, from USD 58.425 million to USD 86.103 million. Despite a decline in hardware consultancy services, which saw exports decrease by 30.68%, repair and maintenance services experienced an unprecedented rise, skyrocketing by 1302.14% from USD 0.035 million to USD 0.490 million.
Furthermore, the export of computer software services showed a modest growth of 1.08%, increasing slightly from USD 50.327 million to USD 50.868 million. Additionally, other computer services also saw significant growth, with a 75.14% increase from USD 63.453 million to USD 111.131 million.
In the information services category, there was a 47.50% increase in exports, from USD 0.300 million to USD 0.442 million. This category includes a 12.34% rise in information-related services and a 69.05% surge in other information services.
However, not all sectors witnessed growth; the export of telecommunication services declined by 9.62%, from USD 41 million to USD 37.053 million. This sector’s performance was mixed, with call center services growing by 33.61% but other telecommunication services experiencing a 37.27% decrease.
This robust performance of Pakistan’s IT sector underscores the country’s growing capabilities in technology and innovation, establishing it as a competitive player in the global IT services market.
