PCJCCI Advocates for Digital Transformation of Pakistan’s Industrial Economy

Islamabad: The Pakistan China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCJCCI) has proposed a transformative shift from Pakistan’s current industrial economy to a digital-focused economy, taking cues from successful models in China. This recommendation was made during a think tank meeting where the integration of computing network hubs across Pakistan was discussed as a crucial step towards boosting the digital economy.

According to Pakistan China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Nazir Hussain, President of PCJCCI, emphasized the importance of adopting the Chinese digital economy model. He proposed establishing national computing hubs in key Pakistani cities such as Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Hyderabad, and Gilgit-Baltistan, similar to the networks in major Chinese regions. These hubs are expected to serve as accelerators for emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, big data, and blockchain, and propel high-quality digital transformation.

Brig. Mansoor Saeed Sheikh (Retd), Senior Vice President of PCJCCI, highlighted that such a national computing network would enable the free flow of data and support the smooth circulation of economic activities. He mentioned China’s strategy to build national integrated computing network hubs as part of its new infrastructure initiatives aimed at fostering a green, high-quality development of the digital economy.

Further contributions came from Zafar Iqbal, Vice President of PCJCCI, who noted that the initiative would balance the structural capabilities of data centers across eastern and western regions of Pakistan, enhancing innovation in big data applications and optimizing the use of computing resources.

Salahuddin Hanif, Secretary General of PCJCCI, added that the big data industry is pivotal in transitioning from an industrial to a digital economy. He advocated for the acceleration of 5G networks and the expansion of 1,000M fiber optic networks to establish a new intelligent ecosystem.
