President Sialkot Chamber rejects extension of tenure of FPCCI for two years

Sialkot, October 11, 2021 (PPI-OT): Mr. Imran Akbar, President Sialkot Chamber, in a statement given to the press rejected the extension of tenure of FPCCI for two years. While commenting on the recommendations made by the Standing Committee of Senate on Commerce to extend the tenure, the President Chamber said that the recommendations had been given without proper consultation with the trade bodies of Sialkot.

He was of the view that it was a hasty decision taken without taking into account the merits and demerits of the proposal. Mr. Akbar, expressing his concern, added that extension in tenure would be an injustice to the business communities of small provinces as they would have to wait for 14 years to be eligible for getting a chance at the presidency of the FPCCI.

The President Sialkot Chamber stressed that the tenure of the office bearers of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry should continue for one year as originally provided under Trade Organizations Act and Rules 2013 and called on the Senate’s Standing Committee on Commerce to review its decision and withdraw the recommendations.
