Punjab Chief Minister Launches Extensive Anti-Encroachment Drive in Lahore Markets

Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has launched a vigorous anti-encroachment campaign targeting 18 major markets in Lahore to reclaim public spaces and enhance urban mobility. The initiative includes a city-wide directive to clear illegal structures and unauthorized parking areas to improve accessibility for pedestrians.

According to Zameen.Com, the Chief Minister issued orders for the immediate upgrading of streets, roads, and bazaars across the city, setting a three-day deadline for completion. She emphasized a zero-tolerance approach to potholes and mandated the Lahore Development Authority’s maintenance unit to ensure optimal functionality.

The drive aims not only to remove encroachments but also to consult with the local business community to minimize disruption. The Chief Minister has instructed the establishment of designated areas for vendors and specific parking zones for motorcyclists within all city markets to organize urban space effectively.

In addition to clearing encroachments, the campaign will address the relocation of 2,595 cattle from 213 locations to areas outside the city and dismantle approximately 1,800 illegal tents set up around Lahore.

Coinciding with ‘National Disaster Awareness Day,’ Maryam Nawaz Sharif also emphasized the need for enhanced planning and individual responsibility to mitigate the impacts of natural disasters, urging every citizen to contribute to minimizing potential damage.
