Punjab Expands Surveillance with Safe City Project in Sheikhupura

Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif inaugurated the Safe City Project in Sheikhupura, aiming to enhance surveillance and security across the region. The initiative, which includes the installation of 273 cameras at 52 strategic locations, will also feature facial recognition technology and free Wi-Fi access at 15 sites. This project marks the first of five similar initiatives slated to be launched across the province.

According to Zameen.Com, the launch in Sheikhupura saw CM Maryam review operations at the Safe City control room, where she assessed various high-tech devices including body cameras and rugged smartphones. She was briefed on the functionalities of the surveillance system, which will not only monitor traffic violations through automatic e-challans but will also keep tabs on air quality and assist in the identification of criminals with its facial recognition capabilities.

The project aims to bolster security measures within the city by integrating advanced technology into daily monitoring and enforcement activities. The addition of panic buttons at ten different locations further underscores the commitment to enhancing public safety.

During her visit, CM Maryam engaged with local assembly members and received updates on law enforcement and infrastructure projects, such as the expansion of the Sheikhupura-Sargodha Road. These meetings emphasized the comprehensive approach being taken to improve both governance and quality of life for the residents of Sheikhupura.
