Rawalpindi: In a significant boost for winter tourism, the Punjab government has allocated PKR 520 million to enhance the tourist experience and infrastructure in the hill stations of Murree and Galyat.
According to Zameen.Com, the funding is designated for several critical areas, including the upgrading of road access, enhancing snow removal operations, and securing landslide-prone zones. These improvements are particularly aimed at addressing the challenges posed by the winter season, which draws thousands of tourists to these regions.
Special emphasis will be placed on expanding roadways in Galyat to minimize disruptions caused by heavy snowfalls. The plan includes measures for faster snow clearance and heightened road safety measures. Additionally, the government has earmarked resources for water supply projects and the construction of storage tanks to alleviate the frequent water shortages during the cold months, benefiting both tourists and local inhabitants.
The initiative spans multiple jurisdictions, with the Murree district administration managing snow clearance and road maintenance within Punjab’s borders, and the Galyat Development Authority (GDA) overseeing similar tasks in the adjoining areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). Roads connecting Punjab, Azad Kashmir, and Galyat will also see improvements, boosting connectivity for tourists navigating these regions.
This investment is anticipated to create jobs and stimulate the local economy, reinforcing Murree and Galyat’s positions as premier destinations for winter tourism. The project underscores a broader effort to capitalize on Pakistan’s tourism potential, ensuring a safer and more enjoyable experience for visitors to these popular hill stations during the winter season.
