PVMA Calls for Urgent Payment of Rs 6.5 Billion by Utility Stores Corporation

KARACHI: The Pakistan Vanaspati Manufacturers Association (PVMA) has called on government officials to expedite the payment of Rs 6.5 billion owed by the Utility Stores Corporation (USC) to ghee and cooking oil manufacturers. According to PVMA Chairman Sheikh Umer Rehan, the dues have been outstanding for over a year, creating financial difficulties for the industry.

Rehan highlighted that the non-payment from USC has led to a liquidity crisis, as mills across the country have already supplied products worth the pending amount. The delay has hindered manufacturers' ability to cover operational expenses and import raw materials, potentially disrupting production processes.

The PVMA chairman stressed that the issue extends beyond industrial concerns, impacting the government's credibility. Despite ongoing appeals to the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Industries and Commerce, no effective measures have been taken to resolve the matter.

Rehan urged Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb and Prime Minister's Adviser Haroon Akhtar Khan to intervene promptly. He called for an inquiry and swift disbursement of the payments to alleviate the financial strain on the industry.

The ghee and cooking oil sector is crucial for the country's food security and employment, Rehan noted. He emphasized that timely government payments are essential for maintaining the industry's stability and supporting economic growth.
