Sialkot: Abdul Ghafoor Malik, President of the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), has issued a critical appeal to the government concerning the ongoing disruptions in internet services across Pakistan, emphasizing the severe implications for the export, e-commerce, and freelance sectors.

According to The Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Malik detailed the significant challenges faced by these sectors due to inconsistent internet connectivity. He noted that the export operations in Sialkot, an area heavily reliant on digital communication for interacting with international clients, have been particularly hard hit. This has resulted in processing and shipping delays, jeopardizing the region’s reputation as a reliable exporter.

Further, the e-commerce businesses are encountering substantial operational hurdles that are impacting revenue, customer service, and digital marketing efforts. The disruption is a major setback for an industry critical to Pakistan’s economic framework.

Malik also highlighted the plight of freelancers, a vital component of Pakistan’s digital economy, who have contributed significantly to the nation’s IT exports, which reached $3.223 billion last year. The ongoing internet issues pose a threat to their ability to secure and maintain international contracts, potentially stunting the growth of the IT sector and affecting Pakistan’s global standing in the digital economy.

He strongly urged the government to prioritize the restoration of stable internet services, underscoring the necessity for swift action to mitigate further economic damage and ensure the continued growth and health of these pivotal sectors.
