Sindh CM Invites Chinese Investment in Karachi Infrastructure Projects

Karachi: Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has extended an invitation to Chinese firms to invest in various infrastructure projects in Karachi, including energy, wastewater treatment, and urban planning. This announcement was made during a meeting with a delegation led by Chairman Belt and Road Group, Mr. Wan Xiaowu.

According to Zameen.Com, the meeting centered on fostering both private and public Chinese investment in key sectors such as waste-to-energy, wastewater treatment, electric vehicle manufacturing, and the overhaul of the city’s sewerage system. Over 12 Chinese firms have shown interest in these projects, aiming to develop sustainable infrastructure in Karachi.

The discussions also covered potential investment opportunities in desalination plants, electric bus manufacturing, and further developing the city’s waste management systems. The Chief Minister assured full government support for these initiatives.

Furthermore, the meeting addressed security enhancements and infrastructure improvements, with CM Murad outlining steps to combat extremism and boost public safety. Initiatives include bolstering the police force, enhancing the Counter Terrorism Department, and implementing the Karachi Safe City Project, equipped with advanced surveillance technology.

On the fiscal front, CM Murad shared insights into Sindh’s budgetary plans for the coming year, focusing on a PKR 3.056 trillion budget with substantial allocations for development and public services. Despite financial hurdles, the government plans to spend PKR 959 billion on crucial sectors like education and health in 2024-25, reflecting its commitment to economic growth and infrastructural development.
