Karachi: In a significant move to address housing affordability, the Sindh government introduced the ‘Sasti Basti’ initiative, designed to offer low-cost homes to economically disadvantaged residents across the province.
According to Zameen.Com, the program was announced at the 29th Governing Body meeting of the Human Settlement Authority, chaired by Najmi Alam, Advisor to the Chief Minister on Human Settlement Authority, Livestock, and Fisheries. The meeting, which also served to approve the fiscal year’s budget, was attended by MPAs Muhammad Yusuf Baloch and Aruba Rabbani, along with senior officials from Hyderabad and Sukkur.
During the meeting, Najmi Alam highlighted that the ‘Sasti Basti’ project is in line with the vision of party chairman Bilawal Bhutto, aimed at delivering sustainable housing solutions to the less fortunate segments of Sindh’s population. The initiative also encompasses the formation of demolition squads to tackle illegal encroachments in slum areas, signifying a broader strategy to enhance living conditions and control urban sprawl.
This development parallels a similar housing initiative launched by Punjab’s Chief Minister, aiming to empower residents with affordable housing options.
