Lahore: The Chairperson of the Carpet Training Institute (CTI), Ejaz-ur-Rehman, has underscored the transformative impact of modern technology on Pakistan's traditional hand-knotted carpet industry. Speaking at a meeting with carpet manufacturers and exporters, he emphasized the need for industry stakeholders to adapt to global changes by integrating real-time market data and emerging trends to enhance export potential.
Ejaz-ur-Rehman noted that advancements in technology, automation, and artificial intelligence are not only creating new employment models but also replacing traditional manufacturing skills. He stressed the importance of leveraging these technologies to present products and operations in innovative ways, in alignment with evolving global demands.
The meeting also addressed challenges faced by the handmade carpet industry and discussed strategies to align with changing global trends. An upcoming international exhibition in Lahore next month was highlighted as a key event for stakeholders to explore new opportunities.
Ejaz-ur-Rehman pointed out that the global market for hand-knotted carpets is on a growth trajectory, projected to reach $16.9 billion by 2032, with a compound annual growth rate of 4.3%. He identified the Asia-Pacific region as a significant market, supported by the strong production capabilities in Pakistan, India, China, and Nepal.
Additionally, North America and Europe remain key markets, with increasing consumer interest in unique and sustainable home decor products. The demand is also rising in the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America, where appreciation for the aesthetic and cultural value of handmade carpets is growing.
He expressed optimism that the upcoming international exhibition in Lahore would facilitate the development of strategies based on the Global Market Outlook 2032, strengthening the industry's position in the global marketplace.
