Karachi: The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) has called upon the SME sector to prepare for potential economic disruptions due to geopolitical tensions. In a recent advisory, UNISAME President Zulfikar Thaver emphasized the importance of maintaining focus and productivity in the face of uncertainty.
Thaver urged entrepreneurs to boost their inventory of raw and finished goods and to concentrate on enhancing productivity. He highlighted the need for resilience, cautioning against succumbing to fear or panic.
In light of economic challenges faced by the United States, Thaver advised SMEs to consider converting their US Dollar savings into stronger currencies. He noted that the USA's decreased exports and retaliatory tariffs from importers have created a precarious economic environment.
The UNISAME Council recommended increasing production of import substitutes, particularly vegetable oil from seeds, and advised stocking up on essential relief goods such as tarpaulins, foodstuffs with long shelf life, and medical supplies.
Additionally, the Council suggested that SMEs ensure their vehicles are well-maintained to be prepared for any eventuality. Thaver expressed hope that diplomatic efforts would ease tensions but emphasized the need for preparedness.
UNISAME's advisory reflects its commitment to supporting SMEs in navigating complex global economic landscapes. The organization continues to provide guidance aimed at sustaining growth and stability within the sector.
