Karachi: The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) has issued a detailed checklist aimed at bolstering the civil defense preparedness of small and medium enterprise (SME) units across Pakistan. This initiative is intended to enhance the safety and protection of employees in the event of emergencies.
Zulfikar Thaver, President of UNISAME, emphasized the necessity for SME units to adopt comprehensive safety measures. He highlighted the importance of equipping workplaces with essential items such as first aid kits, fire extinguishers, portable lamps, and reliable energy systems like UPS and alternate energy solutions.
To ensure operational continuity, UNISAME has advised SMEs to maintain adequate stocks of raw and packaging materials. Additionally, logistics readiness, including conducting pre-emptive checks, is emphasized to prevent production disruptions.
The checklist further recommends that SMEs keep accessible contact details for workers, nearby police stations, civil defense centers, and social welfare organization helplines. This is intended to facilitate swift communication during emergencies.
In light of current conditions necessitating heightened vigilance, UNISAME has issued this reminder to its members, aligning with civil defense authorities' requirements. A committee under Rabee Altaf Malik is being established to provide support, with a dedicated helpline for emergencies.
