Karachi, At the 7th Edition of The Future Summit, Unity Foods Limited, a principal sponsor and leading agro-products company, emphasized the agricultural sector's potential for investors. The two-day event, themed “The Big Picture,” gathered experts to discuss challenges and opportunities in Pakistan. Farrukh Amin, CEO of Unity Foods, delivered a keynote speech highlighting the agricultural sector's lucrative opportunities for both local and foreign investors.
According to Unity Foods, Amin pointed out the significant economic challenges Pakistan has faced, including a drop in per capita income due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the 2022 floods. Despite these adversities, he underscored Pakistan’s strengths in agriculture, citing its large population, extensive irrigation network, and global rankings in the production of wheat, rice, milk, mangoes, cotton, and sugarcane. Amin noted a remarkable 73% surge in agricultural exports in October, particularly rice and sesame seeds to China.
Amin’s speech also covered the economic contributions of the agricultural sector, including an expected 126% growth in cotton production, which could boost textile exports. He encouraged investment in agriculture, highlighting the demand for locally produced food and the potential for import reduction. Amin expressed optimism about Pakistan’s economic turnaround through collective efforts and investments in agriculture.
Highlighting food demand in Pakistan, Amin emphasized the importance of investing in agriculture to meet local needs and create export opportunities. He pointed out the opportunity for investment in the cultivation of edible oil crops, which could lead to import substitution and save foreign exchange.
Amir Shehzad, Executive Director of Unity Foods, discussed Sustainability, Climate Change, and Decarbonization as a panelist. He stressed Unity Foods' commitment to Net Zero and the urgency for all stakeholders to proactively address climate change and decarbonization. Shehzad emphasized the need for immediate implementation of sustainable practices.
