Allegations of Election Rigging Surface in Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry Elections

Karachi: The Businessmen Alliance (BMA) has accused the ruling Businessmen Group (BMG) of employing illegal tactics to manipulate the ongoing Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) elections for the 2024-26 term. Despite these accusations, the BMA remains optimistic about their chances of success.

According to Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Asif Sakhi, leader of the BMA, alleged that the BMG has engaged in unfair practices by only assigning serial numbers to its own candidates, ranging from 1 to 30, while neglecting to allocate numbers for BMA candidates. Sakhi argued that this act demonstrates a deliberate attempt by the BMG to influence the election outcome unfairly.

Sakhi also noted that a deadline of September 5 was established for the allocation of serial numbers, yet the BMG has failed to assign numbers from 31 to 60 to the BMA's candidates as required. He has appealed to Commerce Minister Jam Kamal to intervene and address these discrepancies to prevent any undue influence in the election process, highlighting the need for an independent Election Commission to oversee the KCCI elections due to concerns over the existing commission's impartiality.
