Lahore Expands Administrative Structure with Five New Tehsils

Lahore: In an effort to enhance administrative efficiency, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved the creation of five new tehsils within Lahore. This strategic expansion is designed to address the administrative demands of the city’s growing population.

According to Zameen.Com, the new tehsils, named Sadar, Wagah, Shalimar, Ravi, and Lahore City, are aimed at improving governance and service delivery in these densely populated areas. The decision was facilitated by the appointment of five Grade-17 officers as assistant commissioners to oversee these new administrative units. These appointments include Abdul Wasit Siddiqui from Gujranwala City, Fatima Arshad from Sharqpur, Khawaja Muhammad Umeer Mehmood from the Chief Minister’s Office, Muhammad Saleem from Mankira, and Adil Umar from the Welfare Wing Services Department.

Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman has been tasked with ensuring that administrative and budgetary frameworks align with the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The establishment of these tehsils within the existing boundaries of Lahore aims to streamline local governance without altering the overall population distribution.

The initiative also includes the recruitment of 210 employees across various roles, supporting the administrative capabilities of each tehsil. Each of these new divisions will be allocated a dedicated budget for development and administrative expenses, with total projected annual revenues expected to reach PKR 10.86 billion. Additionally, significant funds have been allocated to enhance educational facilities in these areas to support the expanded administrative framework.

This administrative expansion reflects Lahore’s evolving needs as its population, now exceeding 13 million, continues to grow, necessitating more robust local governance structures to ensure effective service delivery.
