Lahore: The International Cricket Council (ICC), in collaboration with Lahore and Rawalpindi's waste management companies and the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board, announced the 'Maidaan Saaf' campaign for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The initiative, supported by Coca-Cola, is designed to promote responsible waste management and encourage fans to adopt sustainable practices during the tournament in Pakistan.
As part of the campaign, specialized cleaning teams will be stationed at each stadium, tasked with ensuring the venues are cleaned within 60 minutes following each match. Coca-Cola, the ICC's global beverage partner, will provide waste bins made of recycled plastic at all match venues. These bins will feature separate waste categories to facilitate consumer waste segregation.
An awareness campaign aims to educate fans on responsible waste disposal, with collected waste being forwarded to recyclers for the production of value-added products. Babar Sahib Din, CEO of Lahore Waste Management Company, emphasized the event's potential to inspire positive change and promote sustainable practices.
Dr. Faisal Hashmi, Senior Director of Coca-Cola Pakistan and Afghanistan Region Public Affairs, highlighted Coca-Cola's commitment to Pakistan through initiatives like Coke Studio and the ongoing partnership with the ICC to enhance the cricket experience in the country.
The ICC Champions Trophy, featuring 15 matches and eight teams, marks its return to the cricket calendar after a hiatus since 2017. Pakistan, the defending champion, is hosting its first global cricket tournament since 1996.
