Significant Gas Condensate Discovery at Baloch-2 Well in Sindh

Sanghar: A significant discovery of gas condensate has been made at the Baloch-2 well within the Sembar Formation in the Sinjhoro Exploration Licence, Baloch Development and Production Lease, located in Sanghar District, Sindh Province, Pakistan. This marks a key achievement for the joint venture led by the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), which includes partners Orient Petroleum and GHPL.

According to Oil and Gas Development Company Limited, the Baloch-2 well was initiated on February 24, 2024, reaching a total vertical depth of 3920 meters. The exploration was conducted by OGDCL with collaboration and technical assistance from its joint venture partners. The results of the Drill Stem Test-3 on the Sembar Formation showed a production capacity of 6.8 million standard cubic feet of gas and 388 barrels of condensate per day. This output was achieved through a 32/64″ choke size at a wellhead flowing pressure of 2180 psi.

This discovery is particularly significant as it represents the first successful extraction of hydrocarbons from the Sembar Formation in the Sinjhoro Block. The formation is recognized for its considerable source potential and widespread presence in the Middle and Lower Indus Basin. The successful drilling at Baloch-2 not only highlights the untapped potential of the Sembar Formation but also introduces a new operational play, enhancing prospects for further hydrocarbon exploration and development in the area.

In response to this discovery, OGDCL has outlined plans for the immediate appraisal and development of the Baloch-2 site. The company also intends to re-enter and reactivate existing shut-in wells to maximize the extraction and development of the Sembar Formation’s full potential. These initiatives are part of a broader strategy to expand and exploit the hydrocarbon reserves within the block, promising substantial benefits for the energy sector in Pakistan.
