Islamabad: Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal has directed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to spearhead the development of vertical housing projects in Islamabad. This initiative aims to address the increasing demand for residential and commercial space in the capital.
According to Zameen.Com, during a review meeting that included members from the Public Private Partnership Authority (PPPA) and various ministries, Minister Iqbal outlined the necessity for a robust policy on vertical housing. He tasked the CDA chairman with creating and executing a high-rise housing policy to optimize the use of state properties via public-private partnerships, adhering to the Prime Minister's directives.
Minister Iqbal emphasized the environmental, food security, and affordability benefits of vertical housing and commercial developments. He proposed that the CDA examine successful international models from cities like Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur to integrate their best practices. "Pakistan cannot continue expanding horizontally to meet residential and commercial needs," he remarked, advocating for vertical development to conserve green spaces and offer affordable housing solutions.
Furthermore, the minister has ordered the construction of a modern National Library in Islamabad, recommending an international architectural competition to ensure a cutting-edge design for this significant cultural project.
