KARACHI: Malik Khuda Bakhsh, Convener of the Standing Committee on Energy of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), has warned that gas leaks pose significant risks, leading to potential accidents that endanger lives and result in financial setbacks. He emphasized the necessity of implementing safety measures and the potential benefits of smart LPG monitoring devices to mitigate such hazards.
According to Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Bakhsh made these comments during the second meeting of the Standing Committee on Energy for 2026. The meeting was attended by several key figures, including Ali Haider, Mutahir Salam, and others from the energy sector. Bakhsh also noted the ongoing geopolitical tensions between Iran and the United States, acknowledging the efforts of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and Prime Minister Mian Shehbaz Sharif in easing these tensions.
Bakhsh highlighted the growing importance of LPG and electric vehicles in daily life, advocating for continuous monitoring of gas levels to ensure safety and efficiency. He also addressed concerns regarding the potential tax increase on solar energy equipment in the upcoming federal budget, urging the government to maintain a lower tax rate to encourage the use of alternative energy sources.
Mutahir Salam elaborated on the introduction of a comprehensive LPG monitoring and gas leakage detection system, which employs advanced sensors and communication technology to promptly detect and address gas leaks. This system aims to enhance safety and efficiency for LPG users, particularly at retail stations.
Ali Haider stressed the need for better maintenance and public awareness to prevent gas leaks, emphasizing that timely detection is crucial for safeguarding lives and property. The new system integrates advanced electronic controls and safety features to improve operational efficiency and safety at LPG retail stations.
