Seoul: Huawei clinched the GSMA Digital Nation Award for its “Smart 5G Warehouse – Future of Logistics” video at the GSMA Mobile 360 (M360) Asia Pacific 2024, held in Seoul, Korea. The award-winning video demonstrated the impact of 5G technology in revolutionizing logistics and other industries, supporting Indonesia’s digital economy goals. James Chen, President of Huawei Carrier Business, outlined the future role of AI and 5G-A in the telecom sector during his keynote speech.
According to Huawei, “Smart 5G Warehouse” was filmed at Indonesia’s First 5G Smart Warehouse and 5G Innovation Center in Bekasi Regency, West Java. The video showcases how 5G technology enhances operational efficiency and opens up new growth opportunities, contributing to Indonesia’s Golden Vision 2045. In his keynote, Chen discussed the transformational effects of AI and 5G-A, predicting a new era of large-scale personalization in carrier services. He emphasized that this convergence is ushering in a period where personalized services can be extensively provided, creating substantial growth prospects for carriers.
Exploring the potential of 5G, Chen highlighted its application in “5G New Calling,” which uses AI to offer personalized user experiences and has already attracted over 22 million subscribers in China. He also mentioned partnerships in the Asia-Pacific region, including AI-driven digital human and real-time multilingual translation projects in Hong Kong and Thailand, respectively.
Additionally, Chen introduced the Cloud Phone, an innovation leveraging network, cloud, and computing power to mimic real-device experiences while resolving common issues like storage limits and support for high-quality games on low-end devices. Enhanced by AI, the Cloud Phone aims to become a central platform for personal AI applications.
Chen reiterated the transformative potential of AI in telecom, forecasting the integration of about 8 billion AI-powered assistants in households worldwide by 2030. He projected the deployment of 1 to 3 billion AI robots in sectors like manufacturing and research, urging telecom operators to explore innovative business models that convert personalized experiences into commercial value.
