Karachi: The Sustainable Tourism Forum and Expo 2026, organized by the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Development (ICCD), concluded in Karachi, highlighting efforts to enhance multilateral tourism cooperation among member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The event aimed to explore sustainable tourism development, investment opportunities, and community-driven growth across the OIC region.
According to Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Development, the forum was held under the theme "Transforming Tourism for Community Development," bringing together ministers, senior policymakers, investors, tourism leaders, and industry experts. The event was organized with the support of Pakistan's Ministry of Commerce and Board of Investment, in collaboration with the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation, and AlBaraka Bank Pakistan.
Key discussions at the forum emphasized the importance of aligning investment with climate responsibility and local development to ensure tourism delivers lasting value. Participants included representatives from Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan, Türkiye, Iran, Ivory Coast, Malaysia, Singapore, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, and Afghanistan.
In his address, Yousef Hassan Khalawi, Secretary General of ICCD, emphasized the role of sustainable tourism in benefiting communities. Atif Ikram Sheikh, President of FPCCI, highlighted tourism as a strategic economic sector that fosters employment, investment, and cultural exchange. Messages from Pakistan's Prime Minister and Minister for Commerce reiterated the country's commitment to promoting tourism by creating an enabling environment for investment.
Federal Minister of Investment Qaisar Ahmed Sheikh and President and CEO of AlBaraka Bank Pakistan Muhammad Atif Hanif also addressed the forum, underscoring the need for improved infrastructure and investment to harness Pakistan's tourism potential. The event also featured a Culture and Tourism Exhibition, showcasing the offerings and heritage of Pakistan and participating countries.
The successful conclusion of the forum marks a significant step toward strengthening partnerships among OIC countries and positioning Pakistan as a hub for sustainable tourism development in the Islamic world.
