ICCD’s Sustainable Tourism Forum and Expo 2026 Concludes in Karachi, Strengthening OIC Cooperation

Karachi: The Sustainable Tourism Forum and Expo 2026, organized by the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Development (ICCD), concluded in Karachi, marking a successful endeavor to enhance multilateral tourism cooperation among Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states.

According to Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Development (ICCD), the forum, themed "Transforming Tourism for Community Development," gathered ministers, policymakers, investors, and industry experts from across the OIC region. The event focused on sustainable tourism development, investment opportunities, and community-driven growth, aiming to create lasting value for OIC countries.

The forum was held under the patronage of the Ministry of Commerce and the Board of Investment, Government of Pakistan, in association with the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation, and AlBaraka Bank Pakistan.

In his welcome address, Yousef Hassan Khalawi, Secretary General of ICCD, emphasized the role of sustainable tourism in benefiting communities. Discussions highlighted the alignment of investment with climate responsibility and local development.

Atif Ikram Sheikh, President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry, highlighted tourism as a strategic economic sector. He noted the potential for growth in businesses related to tourism, leading to employment opportunities.

Messages from the Prime Minister of Pakistan and the Minister for Commerce reinforced the government's commitment to promoting tourism through an investment-friendly environment.

Qaisar Ahmed Sheikh, Federal Minister of Investment, spoke about Pakistan's rich cultural heritage and the need for improved infrastructure. He emphasized the country's potential for attracting investment and fostering collaboration.

Muhammad Atif Hanif, President and CEO of AlBaraka Bank Pakistan, highlighted the importance of financial support and long-term investment in developing sustainable tourism destinations.

The event saw participation from various OIC member states, including Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan, Türkiye, and others. A Culture and Tourism Exhibition showcased the diverse tourism and cultural heritage of Pakistan and participating countries.

The conclusion of the forum marked a significant advancement in strengthening partnerships among OIC countries and positioning Pakistan as a hub for sustainable tourism development.
