K-Electric Hosts Event to Empower Persons with Disabilities

Karachi: K-Electric (KE) recently organized an event at the Karachi School of Business and Leadership to commemorate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, as part of its 'Yaqeen-Enabling Abilities' program. The event aimed to highlight the company's initiatives in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion, in alignment with the global UN theme, "Empowering Leadership Potential in Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future."

According to a statement by K-Electric, a central component of the event was a panel discussion named "Beyond the Ramp: Shaping the Workplace for Career Mobility of Persons with Disabilities." The session gathered prominent figures from various sectors, including education, government, corporate, and welfare organizations, to deliberate on crucial issues like overcoming workplace barriers for persons with disabilities, the educational system's role in preparing them for careers, and the contributions of government and welfare entities in fostering professional growth.

The panel discussion was guided by KE's Chief People Officer, Muhammad Rizwan Dalia. Distinguished panelists included Farman Ali Tanwri from the Department of Empowerment for PWDs, Ambreen Kanwal from Jang Group of Companies, Dr. Saima Akhtar from the University of Karachi, Saira A. Khan from Gray Mackenzie Restaurants International, and Richard Geary from the Family Education Services Foundation.

The event also featured an address by Dr. Saqlain Shah, Deputy Director at the Department of Empowerment for PWDs. He shared his experiences in the corporate sector as a person with a disability, offering insights and encouragement to those present.

Additionally, the event included an interactive session where an interpreter introduced the audience to basic sign language, promoting inclusivity and better communication.

This initiative by KE underscores its commitment to fostering an equitable work environment and advocating for the inclusion of persons with disabilities, which aligns with its broader vision for a sustainable future.
