KCCI Elections Contested: BMG Seeks Court Intervention Amid Fear of Defeat

Karachi: The Businessmen Group (BMG) at the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), facing a potential loss in the upcoming 2024-26 elections, has turned to the Sindh High Court to halt the electoral process, citing adverse regulatory decisions and alleging improper conduct by the election commission.

According to Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, “The BMG has dominated the KCCI for decades but now fears defeat due to internal conflicts and accusations of unethical practices. In response, they are seeking legal means to prevent what they perceive as a major disgrace, claiming that the election commission and the chamber’s administration are biased against them.”

Meanwhile, Asif Sakhi, leader of the opposition Businessmen Alliance (BMA), accuses the BMG of manipulating electoral processes to maintain control, including illegally hiking nomination fees and providing inaccurate voter lists to hinder competition. These actions have led to regulatory scrutiny and directives to revert nomination fees to legal limits, setting the stage for a highly contested election marred by legal challenges and accusations from both sides.
