Lahore to Introduce Tram Service on MM Alam Road

Lahore: In a major transit development, the Punjab government has given the green light for a new tram service along MM Alam Road, turning it into a one-way street to facilitate this modern transport solution.

According to Zameen.Com, the tram service will span an 11-kilometer route, making stops every 1 to 1.5 kilometers, and will connect critical Lahore areas including Liberty, Main Market, Mini Market, and Hali Road. The project is projected to cost PKR 27 billion and will utilize state-of-the-art trams sourced from Finland and China, with an additional planned stop at Gaddafi Stadium.

This decision was finalized in a meeting led by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif at the Lahore Development Authority headquarters. Alongside Chief Minister Sharif, Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb and Special Assistant on Political Affairs Zeeshan Malik underscored the urgency of completing this project swiftly. The official launch date for the tram service will be announced shortly.

Details regarding ticket pricing will be released following the project's completion. Furthermore, to improve traffic flow in Lahore, a signal-free corridor from Kareem Block to the Motorway has also been approved by the Chief Minister.
