Pakistani Official Makes History At Tour De L’avenir

Islamabad: For the first time, a Pakistani official will preside over a Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) cycling race in Europe. Muhammad Haroon General, a UCI-certified Road Elite National Commissaire, has been selected to officiate at the prestigious Tour de l’Avenir in France, taking place from August 23rd to 29th.

This historic selection represents a breakthrough for Pakistan in international cycling administration. Mr. General was among only six commissaires chosen worldwide, representing Asia, Africa, and the Americas, following a rigorous selection procedure.

Mr. General acknowledged the backing he received, stating, “The assistance from the Pakistan Cycling Federation and Dubai Islamic Bank has been instrumental in achieving this milestone. It’s a source of national pride that Pakistan will now have representation in Europe not just by competitors, but also by an official at the pinnacle of the sport.”

Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB), a key supporter of this landmark achievement, reiterated its dedication to fostering Pakistani talent and enhancing the country’s global standing. A DIB representative commented, “At DIB, 'Progress Never Stops' is more than a motto; it’s our obligation. Our backing of Mr. General’s historic selection underscores our commitment to facilitating Pakistani achievements on the world platform.”

The Pakistan Cycling Federation lauded this as a significant development for cycling in Pakistan, highlighting the nation’s increasing capacity to develop officials of international caliber capable of contributing to prominent global competitions.
